I hope this finds you well. I am Patrick Eugene, a Haitian young man who left Haiti in 2006 to come to study in the United States. With the support of some members of the St Thomas Haiti Committee in Charlottesville, I was able to graduate from James Madison University with a degree in Computer science. I am now running this organization named Digitalkap Technology, a private IT Consulting Company registered in Haiti that brings information technology services to churches and schools and training to young adults and teachers in Haiti. We are the first desktop virtualization organization in Haiti.
One of our main projects in Haiti is the "Technology in the Classroom Program", which aims to build various computer labs and train students and teachers in ICT throughout Haiti. By working directly with Catholic Diocese of Richmond, we have built solar powered computer labs and provided training to many catholic schools in Haiti. For the past few months, we have built several solar powered computer labs in Haiti. Our work is in line with our belief that technology can make a huge impact in the education system in Haiti.
For our computer lab set up, we use desktop virtualization technology (sometimes called zero clients or thin clients) which enables multiple users to simultaneously share a single operating system. This system reduces the number of operating systems to maintain by up to 97%, reduces the per-seat cost of a PC by more than 75%, replaces costly PCs with simple, small and very durable thin clients, produces less e-waste, and utilizes less energy.
I learned about your wonderful works in Haiti. I am writing to see if there is a way you can let your panthers that are working in Haiti know about our computer lab project. Or if you know anyone that would be interested in our computer lab project? I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you!
